There's something rotten in the state of Norway. Well, it's a country, but you get the idea. For some reason, the black metal forces of that land have been awakened and are stirring up major controversy as of late, and history seems to be repeating itself.
According to an online translation of a report from Norway's NRK newspaper, Satanists may be responsible for the Friday (May 29) arson attack on a 200-year-old wooden church in VĂ¥ler, about 150 km northeast of Oslo. Firemen managed to bring out an altarpiece dating from 1697 and the Communion silver but the church itself and many irreplaceable pieces of art were destroyed.
Police later confirmed that the fire had been intentionally set and are asking for assistance from the National Bureau of Crime Investigation and information from the public to help solve the crime.
Authorities fear this could mean the beginning of a new wave of attacks on churches in Norway. In early May, headstones in Oslo and Sandefjord were toppled and Oslo's Nordstrand Church had gravestones overturned, while "Satanistic" messages were scribbled onto the door and windows smashed.
We blame how every musical genre goes in and out of vogue over the course of two decades. It's been about that long since the first wave of Norwegian black metallers were responsible for riotous, destructive behaviour so buckle up for a bumpy couple of years.
