Noise dispute stops flow of booze at Slim's in San Francisco

A decades-old South of Market nightclub had its liquor license revoked by state officials last week because of noise — violations the owners say are the result of one neighbor complaining.

State Alcoholic Beverage Control officials handed a 10-day suspension to Slim’s on March 15 after inspectors outside heard sound coming from the club, according to a department spokeswoman. While The City’s Entertainment Commission normally regulates sound complaints, Slim’s original liquor license from 1988 has a condition that allows the ABC to revoke it if the club is too noisy.

A sign on the club’s front door blames the suspension on noise complaints from one neighbor, Jeanmarie Guenot. Guenot did not return calls for comment, and a publicist for Slim’s said the club would not comment further on the matter.

Dawn Holliday, a part owner of Slim’s, previously told SF Weekly the club has spent more than $250,000 in legal fees since 2007 when Guenot moved next door and began calling police about the noise.

The tiff represents a conflict that has become more common in SoMa as residents of the fastest-growing neighborhood in The City mingle with the highest density of nightclubs in San Francisco, said Jim Meko, a member of the Entertainment Commission.

“It’s one particular neighbor who complains incessantly and an ABC regulation that is frankly unfair,” Meko said in regard to Slim’s. “Slim’s has always been one of the best-run clubs on the 11th Street corridor and, in general, has been a good neighbor.”

The club has remained open through the suspension, hosting alcohol-free shows, and it is expected to start serving drinks again Friday when the Irish group the Saw Doctors plays a show.

A Perfect Circle Announces Dates For North American Tour

A Perfect Circle revealed via Twitter that a North American tour was in the works last month, even revealing a few Canadian and festival dates. But today, exact dates and venues for the band’s first full blown tour since returning from hiatus have been confirmed. The supergroup, featuring Maynard James Keenan, guitarists Billy Howerdel and James Iha, drummer John Freese, and bassist Matt McJunkins, will be on the road for a majority of July and August, in addition to their Rock On The Range Appearance in May.

While the group marked their return with a handful of special West Coast shows at the end of 2010 (seeing them perform albums in their entirety per night), this marks A Perfect Circle’s first full tour and dates in the East Coast in six years. And since new APC music is in the works, there’s a strong chance fans will get to hear a new song or two at a show this Summer.

The dates for A Perfect Circle’s Summer tour are as follows:

5/22 – Columbus, OH – Rock on the Range
6/29 – Portland, OR – Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall
6/30 – Kent, WA – Showare Center
7/2 – Gibbons, AL – Boonstock Festival
7/ 4- Winnipeg, MB – Centennial Concert Hall
7/6 – St. Paul, MN – Roy Wilkins Auditorium
7/8 – Detroit, MI – Fox Theatre
7/9 – Toronto, ON – Edgefest
7/12 – Boston, MA – Bank of America Pavilion
7/13 – New York, NY – Hammerstein Ballroom
7/15 – New York, NY – Beacon Theatre
7/16 – Philadelphia, PA – Penn’s Landing – Festival Pier
7/17 – Washington, DC – Constitution Hall
7/19 – Charlotte, NC – Time Warner Cable Uptown Amphitheatre
7/20 – Atlanta, GA – The Tabernacle
7/22 – San Antonio, TX – Freeman Coliseum
7/23 – Grand Prairie, TX – Verizon Theatre
7/25 – Phoenix, AZ – Comerica Theatre
7/28 – Los Angeles, CA – Gibson Amphitheater
7/29 – Sacramento, CA – Memorial Auditorium
7/30 – Berkeley, CA – The Greek Theatre
8/2 – Denver, CO – Red Rocks Amphitheatre
8/9 – Pittsburgh, PA – Stage AE

On a side note, rumors are starting to hit the web that A Perfect Circle will be performing at this year’s Lollapalooza. Seeing as how Chicago (the city where the festival takes place) has been left off the list of tour dates, the rumor isn’t too far of a stretch to believe. We’ll keep you posted if more develops.

Casey Royer of DI Arrested for OD'ing in Front of Son

TMZ reports that ex-Social Distortion drummer was arrested last week in Orange County after overdosing on heroin in front of his 12 year old son. According to law enforcement sources, the 52 year old punk drummer was watching TV with his son when he experienced an overdose. After his son ran to their neighbors for help, Royer was rushed to the hospital and surviving from the overdose. He was arrested soon afterwards. Today, he was officially charged with one count of child endangerment and one count of being under the influence of heroin, while also being held with a $120,000 bail.

Royer was the drummer in Social Distortion’s first lineup. Though he was in the band from 1978 to 1981, Royer appeared on none of the band’s recordings. Once leaving Social Distortion, Royer went on to play in The Adolescents until 1987. During his time with The Adolescents he formed a new group called D.I., which he currently still plays in (as their vocalist).

Former Alice In Chains Bassist Mike Starr Dead

According to TMZ, original Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr, perhaps better known as a member of the third season of Celebrity Rehab, was found dead in a house in Salt Lake City earlier today. His father called the death of the 44 year-old a “terrible loss.”

Starr was in Alice in Chains from 1987 to 1993, and left the band during the tour for Dirt. While it was said at the time that he left to spend time with his family, Starr later admitted he left because of his drug use. In 2009, Starr was on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. However, last month, he was arrested in Salt Lake City for drug possession after being found with non-prescription pills. It’s really sad to think that half of the original lineup of Alice In Chains is gone now. While there’s no word yet on the cause of death, it can be presumed that like frontman Layne Staley, drugs were involved. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
