Judas Priest Farewell Tour To Take Place Without K.K. Downing

Judas Priest announced their farewell Epitaph tour late last year, stating that after they release a studio album next year, they’ll tour the world one last time. Well, today, they announced that the tour will take place without founding guitarist K.K. Downing. The 59 year-old founding member of the band stated that he’s retiring. In a statement released on the band’s website, the band announce that they’ve already found a replacement, Richie Faulkner. The 31 year-old Faulkner, currently the guitarist for Lauren Harris’ band (Steve Harris’ daughter), was born the year British Steel, the band’s sixth studio album, was released. The full statement is as follows:
It is with regret that Judas Priest announce that K.K. Downing has formally retired from the band and will therefore not be joining them on their forthcoming Epitaph tour.

The band respect his decision and naturally all wish him well.

Having thought long and hard about how to proceed, Rob, Glenn, Ian and Scott unanimously agreed that they should to ahead with the tour and not let the fans down all around the world.

Fate also stepped in and delivered the perfect replacement – 31 year old British guitar player Richie Faulkner – he had blended into the and perfectly and is a great talent who is going to help set the stage on fire!

The Epitaph tour will include songs from every Priest studio album and also tracks they have never before performed on stage plus all the old favourites!

With a new album due to be released next year, the Metal Gods are preparing to tour the planet once more – heavy metal at its best complete with lasers, lights, bikes and hellfire!! It’s a show not to be missed!

While it’s unfortunate that one half of the Downing/Tipton juggernaut won’t be taking part in their final tour, it only puts a little bit of a damper on the tour and album. Downing is an architect of the band’s sound, and it’s hard to imagine the band without him, but as long as Faulkner knows his parts, it won’t be all that noticeable, and there’s no way Priest would allow him to play without having confidence in him. This will make bassist Ian Hill the only member of Judas Priest that’s been in the band for its entire existence.

JANE'S ADDICTION OFFER FREE GIVEAWAY OF THEIR NEW TRACK 'END TO THE LIES'

JANE'S ADDICTION yesterday (April 7) gave their fans the chance to be the first to hear music from THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST, their first new studio album in eight years.

The band’s singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins are giving away a free download of the final mix of ''End To The Lies'' exclusively at their website: www.janesaddiction.com. THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST will be released this August on Capitol Records (exact date TBA).

An early, unfinished version of "End To The Lies" leaked last Wednesday (March 30) in Chile when Farrell made an appearance on the "La Ley D Rock" program on the Chilean radio station Radio Futuro, after which the song became an instant viral sensation. JANE'S ADDICTION were in Chile as one of the headliners of the inaugural Lollapalooza Chile, which took place last weekend (April 2-3) in Santiago's O'Higgins Park. See this New York Times story.

For THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST, JANE'S ADDICTION are working with producer Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol), with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek on the team. Sitek, best known for his production work on TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Foals, is writing, programming, and playing bass on the album. The band, with Chris Cheney on bass, will be touring throughout 2011 (see preliminary dates below).

Forming in 1985 in L.A., JANE'S ADDICTION has been firmly embedded in the collective pop culture consciousness for 25 years now. Perry Farrell stands out as one of music's most forward-thinking and enigmatic frontmen. Dave Navarro remains a veritable guitar god. Drummer Stephen Perkins' tribal stomp has also influenced a generation of percussionists. The hugely influential Los Angeles-based band has sold in excess of seven million records in the U.S. alone. When lead singer Perry Farrell created the traveling Lollapalooza festival, it galvanized the alternative rock movement and brought it to a whole new level.

JANE'S ADDICTION have written the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience. Great bands break rules, but legends write their own.

Holt had been filling in for SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman since the tour kicked off February 26 in Australia.

KORN Frontman Says DAVE MUSTAINE Was 'Mean' To Him In 1995

Mike Sullivan of ExploreMusic recently conducted an interview with KORN frontman Jonathan Davis. You can now watch the chat below.

When asked about KORN's 1995 tour as the support act for MEGADETH, Davis said, "It was hard touring with MEGADETH because at that time [MEGADETH mainman] Dave Mustaine was really mean and just had attitude. It was scary being on there. I was drinking at the time and I got him drinking again, which I shouldn't have done, but that was Dave Mustaine and I was this young, little kid, and I'm like, 'That's Dave Mustaine and he wants to drink. I'll give him a drink.' I respected him and everything, but I kind of got my feelings hurt, because he was mean at times. I don't have any ill will towards the guy now, 'cause you know how it is — now you're older and you're wiser — but at the time it was really scary. And plus, we were pissed off at getting all these metal tours. We went from DANZIG — which was cool, 'cause it was kind of different — and then we went with OZZY [OSBOURNE] and with MEGADETH... At the time no one knew where to put us, so we were doing tours with KMFDM to MEGADETH, fuckin' PENNYWISE... [They] didn't know what to do with us. At that time we weren't a metal band, and we still to this day have fit into any kind of scene; no one scene calls us their home. You've got bands like SLIPKNOT and bands like that, they're part of a scene — that's a metal scene and they've got their diehard fan base. But we've never fit in anywhere; we've been this black sheep for so long. Some metal fans like us, some metal fans hate us because we're not technical 'MESHUGGAH metal,' you wanna call is, you know what I mean?! So it's been kind of fucked — we've been floating around in this... but that's KORN, so it was cool, but... When I heard that we were gonna go on that tour, I was pissed off. I was like, 'Man, why do we keep going out with these old-school bands? I wanna do something different.'"

In a January 2011 interview with Zoiks! Online, KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer stated about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's new CD, "We have probably three songs we wrote a couple, two, three months ago. We went into the studio, we wrote some songs, Jon [singer Jonathan Davis] demoed the songs on his computer, and then we took them into the studio and played them live and tweaked them a little bit. Then we put those down and recorded them. They're cool. They kind of remind me a little bit of the SOUNDGARDEN style, that sort of Seattle sound… just one of them. The other songs are sort of different, a little more in the experimental stage right now. I don't want to give too much away. We're definitely moving forward, we'll probably start recording in April to try and fine-tune this sound we're developing."

KORN's latest album, "Korn III - Remember Who You Are", came out in July 2010 and followed up the band's self-titled 2007 effort.

The disc has stalled at 170,000 copies sold in the U.S. after eight months on shelves.

KORN was nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, which was held in February in Los Angeles. The award eventually went to IRON MAIDEN for the song "El Dorado". via Blabbermouth

It is a great honor to be asked to play with so many talented bands… we had a killer time last round and this year will be no exception. Beers bongs will be had, horns will fly, and legions of metal fans will be left devastated! Bring your daughter to the slaughter… or something." Trevor Strnad of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER

"We are excited to be a part of this year's Summer Slaughter tour. The past two years we have done big outside festival summer tours so it will be awesome to make it more intimate this summer and do a tour like Summer Slaughter. In 2008 we opened Summer Slaughter and now just 3 years later we will be back playing alongside some great bands and friends. I couldn't think of a more perfect way to return to the Summer Slaughter tour!" Alex Wade of WHITECHAPEL

"We're honored to have the opportunity to share the stage this summer with the best of the best in metal today…all that attend the 5th annual Summer Slaughter Tour will be left six feet under!" Chris Barnes of SIX FEET UNDER

Joining vocalist Chris Barnes, guitarist Steve Swanson, guitarist Rob Arnold, and drummer Kevin Talley on the Summer Slaughter Tour will be a special guest on second guitar. More information on that soon!

Veil of Maya’s Van And Trailer Stolen

Touring’s a bitch. If the nonstop driving and wear and tear of being in a van with four or five guys for 18 hours a day isn’t enough, there’s shady promoters, nights blending into days, and the possibility of getting into an accident as a result of those nights blending into days. Add to that, every now and then, some douchebag decides to steal your van and trailer, like what just happened to Veil of Maya in Chicago. “Our van and trailer was stolen last night in Wicker Park, Chicago, IL,” reads a post on their Facebook page. “Please keep a look out for our 98 White Ford 15 passenger van with the trailer shown attached to it. Please call Chicago police if you happen to see it.”

That really sucks. I’d assume it means that their instruments were in the trailer as well. And it’s not even a nice van. If you check the picture, there’s either rust or a shit stain on it. Whatever dick decided to jack their van probably only wants it for what’s in the trailer, so they’d be smart to check pawn shops in the area as well. At least the trailer’s already got graffiti on it. Maybe whoever stole it will tag it with “Honky Lips,” as that’s been known to happen in Chicago… If there’s any silver lining, it’s the the band weren’t on tour, so at least they’re not going to lose out on playing any shows.
