Judas Priest - Victim of Changes - Kick Ass Video

Former Alice in Chains Bassist Says He Let Layne Staley Die

"I should have been a doctor and not a musician, 'cause then I would have been healthy all my life ... like you," former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr says to Dr. Drew Pinksy.

This wasn't a casual chat between friends. Instead, it's an emotional exchange between doctor and patient about heroin, lifelong addiction and the death of original Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley as part of a recent episode of 'Celebrity Rehab 3.'

<a href="http://www.vh1.com/shows/celebrity_rehab_with_dr_drew/season_3/series.jhtml" target="_blank">I Let Him Die</a>

During the three minute conversation, Dr. Drew prompts Starr to recount how he died for 11 minutes from heroin the night he was 'kicked out' of Alice in Chains. Starr also laments his regrets over Staley's death.

"I let him die, too. He saved my life ... isn't that terrible?" Starr asks rhetorically. Starr left Alice in Chains in the middle of the 1993 'Dirt' tour.

In addition to Starr, other patients include 'Hollywood madam' Heidi Fleiss, former basketball player Dennis Rodman and actor Tom Sizemore.

'Celebrity Rehab 3' airs on VH1.

Eluveitie Say Swiss Metal Scene Is Big, but Self-Contained

Banks and neutrality -- that's what Switzerland is known for, not its burgeoning metal scene. According to Swiss pagan metal band Eluveitie, the scene is spread all over Switzerland, which isn't a large country. But the scene is expansive and all over.

"I think the Swiss metal scene is a bit strange, but actually, there is a really big metal scene here," vocalist/mandolin player Chrigel. "It is huge, actually. There are a lot of bands, and there are many good and talented bands, but there are virtually no bands in Switzerland who make it across the border. I don't know why that is. It is, in a weird way, self-concerned and contained, and I don't get it or care, since we almost never play in Switzerland. Most Swiss bands, for years, they exist and play shows but play within their own cities and the same clubs, same people attending the concerts. It's strange. I don't get it."

So while their brethren may stay comfortable within the confines and geographical parameters of Switzerland, Eluveitie will stay on the road, hitting America later this year to support their new album, 'Everything Remains as It Never Was.'

"We love to be on tour anyway, no matter which continent. It is cool to be on tour and be together with our fans and play for them," Chrigel said. The band likes to tour America, even if the food leaves something to be desired, simply because of the nature of eating junk whilst on the road.

"The food, we usually don't like, to be honest," Chrigel said. "It gives us a hard time. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying you won't get decent things to eat in America. But we are on tour, we are driving for 10 hours and then arrive at the venue and do sound check, play our show, get drunk, go back on the bus. It's hard to find good, organic food and we usually just eat hamburgers and pizza stuff like that."

Sounds like a diet Homer Simpson would love.

THE ACACIA STRAIN DVD HITS TOP 10 ON BILLBOARD VIDEO CHART

THE ACACIA STRAIN's first DVD, "The Most Known Unknown," which was released last Tuesday, February 16, debuted at #10 on Billboard's Top Music Video Sales Chart. Front man Vincent Benett commented; "This is awesome news. Thank you to everyone who went out and bought the DVD last week. We are really proud of it, and hope you enjoy it. We look forward to seeing you out on tour once we are done writing and recording our new record."

The double disc set, "The Most Known Unknown," marks the band's first DVD. Disc one documents a sold out show at the Worcester Palladium shot in December 2008, while disc two contains footage of a show at the much smaller and more intimate Waterfront in the band's home turf of Holyoke MA, as well as three music videos, a documentary covering the formative years of the band and a "10 Seconds of Fame" bonus segment, in which select fans were given 10 seconds on camera to do whatever they wanted. The cover art was done by Paul Romano, who also did the cover of the band's album, "Continent."

THE ACACIA STRAIN's last full length, 2008's "Continent," debuted at number 2 on Billboard's "Heatseekers" Chart and the band won the "Myspace Readers' Choice Award" at 2009's GOLDEN GODS awards. The band is gearing up to record a new album for a tentative summer 2010 release.

SON OF AURELIUS TO RELEASE “THE FARTHEST REACHES” APRIL 13th ON GOOD FIGHT MUSIC

In 2009 local Santa Cruz musicians came together for a 3 song recording project that included vocalist Josh Miller, guitarist Cary Gear, and a rhythm section made up of drummer Spencer Edwards and Berklee trained bassist Max Zigman. The recording took place at producer Zack Ohren's Castle Ultimate Studios. Zack previously produced albums for All Shall Perish, Suffocation, and Decrepit Birth. To a man, the band was floored by the depth and ferocity of the music they created. Their ability to blend technical progression, brutal death, and accents of melody compelled them to turn their studio session into a full time mission.

With some recorded material under their belt the guys added the final piece to their line up, former Animosity guitarist Chase Fraser. Chase had already experienced multiple worldwide album releases and relentless touring around the earth throughout his time in Animosity. With Chase on board the line up was now complete and the band was ready to record a full length album. The guys knew there was only one studio and one man to be at the helm of their full length, so they once again teamed up with producer Zack Ohren at Castle Ultimate Studios. The band knew they wanted to write music that pushed the boundaries of heavy metal and challenge the depth of songwriting in the extreme death genre. It only takes a few seconds into the first track to pick up on the complexity and sheer brilliance of the musicianship. Perhaps the biggest nod to the songwriting for SON OF AURELIUS is that they never get lost in the overindulgence of shredding that tends to plague so many bands that lean towards the progressive and technical side of metal. There are hooks and moments of melody that blend perfectly with the all out attack of musicianship. No part ever feels contrived or randomly thrown in just for the sake of change. When the guitars take over and lead the charge it is done so with sincerity. When a hook kicks in it is a complement to the song structure and lets the listener settle in for the ride. The cherry on the top for the recording session was getting Alan Douches on the job for the mastering. Alan has worked with some of the titans of heavy metal including Mastodon, Shadows Fall, Cannibal Corpse, and The Black Dahlia Murder. Having Alan place his touch on the recordings gives the material the proper sonic burst it deserves.

With the new album titled “The Farthest Reaches” ready to be introduced to the world by Good Fight Music on Tuesday April 13th 2010, the band plans to embark on a schedule of relentless touring. With a live show that focuses on equal parts accuracy and audience engagement, it is a performance formula sure to win over the hearts of metal fans throughout the world. Like their namesake did many centuries ago, The SON OF AURELIUS are poised to leave their own mark on history.

New for this year, fans everywhere can cast their vote beginning today to choose who will take home the awards for “Best Guitarist,” “Best Drummer,” “Best Vocalist,” “Album of the Year,” “Best Live Band,” “Best Underground Band,” “Most Metal Athlete,” “Hottest Chick(s) in Metal” and “Comeback of the Year.” Voting is going on now at www.revolvermag.com/goldengods and ends on Wednesday, March 31.

1349 ANNOUNCE TITLE and STREET DATE; "DEMONOIR" To Hit April 27th in North America‏

Norwegian black metal titans 1349 have announced the title and release date of their new album. The album, entitled "DEMONOIR," will be released by Indie Recordings throughout Europe on April 26, and by Prosthetic Records in North America on April 27.

For the band's fifth full-length release, 1349 decided to suck out the fiercest and most potent energies from every single member and surroundings, channeling it into songs that are pulsating with uncanny atmospheres, rawness and nerve shattering intensity. The whole process of getting the material on record was like one long, exhausting black magic summoning that could not be allowed to go wrong.

"DEMONOIR" is without a shadow of a doubt 1349's darkest, most sinister and brutal work to date, and in this case it comes to mean that the band has gone from the utterly extreme to the genre-expanding and mind-boggling. Black Metal cannot, and will never be the same.

"DEMONOIR" will be available in North America as a digipack CD and a limited edition 12" picture disc LP.

Lineup:

Archaon - Guitars

Frost - Drums

Ravn - Vocals

Seidemann - Bass

MUNICIPAL WASTE AWAIT SOUTH AMERICAN TOUR - NEW DATE ADDED

Having just completed a highly successful run in the UK/Europe, Richmond, VA crossover leaders, MUNICIPAL WASTE are headed straight back onto the road this March for a number of dates in South America. "South America has always been on our list of places to spread the Waste;" says guitarist, Ryan Waste. "I know how passionate the crowds are about heavy music down there and we're going to deliver. I'm prepared for some wild shows to ensue."

SUIDAKRA TO RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES THIS MARCH‏

While so-called "pagan metal" bands seem to be popping up around every corner lately, trying to conform to current trends instead of coming up with ideas of their own, SUIDAKRA have stayed true to the sound that they have become known for. Reaching new heights in their fourteen year history, the German Celtic metallers return full steam ahead with their 9th studio album,"Crógacht". Combining fast melodic death metal, Irish folk music, and a torrent of harmonies, they prove yet again the ability blend several different influences into their unique sound. To put a spin on things, new elements are introduced, like traditional instruments (bagpipes, banjo, tin whistles), a sixteen member choir and epic orchestral arrangements.

SUIDAKRA have performed numerous live shows, including five stints at the world famous Wacken Open Air festival, as well as completing several tours in Europe and Russia. In March 2009, the band successfully took part in a four week North American tour around the US and Canada. In June SUIDAKRA played 4 highly acclaimed shows in China; after another stop at the 20th Wacken Open Air; SUIDAKRA traveled to the UK for a tour in November with Saxon and Anvil.

After a brief tour of Spain the guys in SUIDAKRA are making their triumphant return to North America on tour this March with Orphaned Land. There will be three dates in the United States one in New York, one in Chicago and one in Austin, TX (during the South By South West Music Festival). The tour will also touch down in Canada in both Montreal and Toronto. Tickets are on sale now.

Guitarist and singer Arkadius spoke about the upcoming North American dates.

“We are excited that we are returning to North America for a third time. The last two times we were here were awesome! We are looking forward to kicking some asses again.”

Recorded at Gernhart Studios with producer Martin Buchwalter, "Crógacht" delivers the most powerful candy for the ears. But the eyes and mind will also be pleased, as famous Belgian graphic artist Kris Verwimp is responsible not only for the magnificent artwork in the digipack and 16-page booklet, but also for the lyrics of this fascinating concept album. "Crógacht", meaning bravery, is based in its entirety on one of the most dramatic tales in Irish mythology. It tells the story of the hero Cuchulainn’s epic journey to the Isle of Skye, where he seeks to learn the arts of war from the Scythian warrior woman Scáthach. The decisions he then has to make set the events in motion that will lead up to his son Conlaoch’s tragic fate...

SHADOWS FALL AND THROWDOWN TEAM UP WITH FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH AND 2 CENTS FOR WINTER 2010 TOUR‏

South Carolina's THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD's, third album, "Skepsis" hits the streets today, via PROSTHETIC RECORDS. The self-produced effort is the first TTEOTD release to feature new vocalist Danny Rodriguez, drummer Mike Ranne and guitarist Chris "Hank" Henckel. The album was recorded at Geller Cellar Studios in New York and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall), and features cover art by Paul Romano (Mastodon, Trivium).

The album is available at stores, through all digital sites and via the PROSTHETIC webshop.

Guitarist Justin Longshore commented on the new release: "Our new record 'Skepsis' finally captures the sound we've always envisioned. We really wanted to raise the bar with this one but also keep the consistency that Through The Eyes Of The Dead is known for. Overall, everyone has become better at their instruments and it really shows on the record. I have no doubt in my mind that new and old fans of the band will be pleased when they hear it!"

Since signing with Prosthetic in 2005, TTEOTD has SoundScanned nearly 60,000 copies and toured with a who's who of heavy music, perhaps most notably as part of the now-legendary 2006 Sounds of the Underground tour that featured a stacked lineup of metal gods In Flames, Trivium, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, GWAR, The Black Dahlia Murder, As I Lay Dying and more. The band will hit the road supporting Otep, along with Bury Your Dead and Destrophy later this month and throughout March.
