Commented guitarist Gary Holt: "We decided to give everybody another taste of the new record… and it's about one of America's favorite pastimes, the school shooting. This song was primarily inspired by the massacre at Virginia Tech, as well as Columbine and the many other instances of unhinged individuals who decided to take out their wrath on their classmates, going all the way back to [University of Texas at Austin’s 1966 tower sniper] Charles J. Whitman."

EXODUS filmed a video for the track "Downfall" on April 1 in Los Angeles. The clip was directed by Jon Schnepp, who was the creative force behind the band's "Riot Act" video. He is also known for his work on "Metalocalypse" (the animated program about DETHKLOK, the world's most popular death metal band) on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

"Exhibit B: The Human Condition" was recorded this past December in Northern California with producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ARCH ENEMY, KREATOR).

EXODUS recently took part in the "Rust In Peace 20th Anniversary Tour" with MEGADETH and TESTAMENT.

ANEW REVOLUTION ANNOUNCES “ECONOMIC STIMULUS TOUR”

New York, NY - ANEW REVOLUTION will be hitting the road on the "Economic Stimulus Tour" along side Poughkeepsie New York's SUGAR RED DRIVE. "This tour was created as a way to give back to the cities we're playing and their local economies. We're going into these cities and venues and literally adding jobs. Whether it be by hiring local crew or promotion outlets, or just bringing people into the venue to in turn the spend some money to see a good show and maybe buy some merch." says bassist Frank Salvaggio.

One of the main focuses of this tour is to create at least 2 real jobs the day of the show by hiring 2 part-time workers to help with load-in, set up, and local transportation for the bands. Salvaggio continues, "We're also showing that even a modest touring band has to do whatever it takes to survive in these tough economic times."

ANEW REVOLUTION also plan on keeping the ticket prices at a lower than average price of just $10 as well as donating 50% of the ticket proceeds to a local, not national, charitable cause. Type O Negative’s Peter Steele Reported Dead (1962-2010)

It was reported late last night that Type O Negative vocalist/bassist Peter Steele passed away from heart failure earlier in the day (April 14). While at first there was no official statement released by the band’s management or any other close sources, many close friends have revealed the rumors to be true.

Fuse TV’s Mistress Juliya stated via Twitter that Steele “past of heart failure today. Just spoke to Kenny” (referring to Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey). Revolver Magazine’s editor-in-chief Brandon Geist revealed similar news on his Twitter page, saying “Hoping [the rumors] are not true, but the source is good.” In 2005, Steele joked of his death by posting a picture of a tombstone that read “Peter Steele – 1962 – 2005 …. Free At Last” on the band’s website. However, Type O Negative keyboardist Josh Silver has confirmed to Blabbermouth.net early this morning that Steele has passed away, though an official cause of death has not yet been released. Steele, born Petrus T. Ratajczyk, was 48 years.

Though Steele played in metal groups like Fallout and Carnivore, he was best known for his role in Type O Negative. Formed in 1990, the Brooklyn band became a heavy contributor to the gothic metal genre, mixing thrash and doom metal to create a unique sound. Their sophomore album, Bloody Kisses, was the first album for Roadrunner Records to go platinum, with the single “Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)” gaining an enormous amount of radio airplay. Their most recent album, Dead Again, was released in 2007 and debuted at #27 on the Billboard charts. Steele’s low bass heavy voice was one of the key attributes to the band’s dark sound that helped further define goth metal.

God Forbid Complete Contract With Century Media, Offer New Album Update

God Forbid guitarist Doc Coyle recently checked in with a lengthy update regarding the bands recent touring and their plans for their next album.

Speaking on the latter, he offered the following:

“Now we immerse ourselves back in the writing process for the next God Forbid album for an unknown record label as our contact with Century Media has ended. It’s always difficult to tell how a new album will sound this early in the process, but I can say that our new guitar player Matt Wicklund is contributing tons of material.

His stuff is very hook oriented with a Scandinavian twinge. The stuff I’ve been writing has been varied from evil Morbid Angels, black metal shit to mid tempo/power groove Machine Head type stuff, and signature GF material that is a logical progression from our previous albums. The process has changed with all of the touring and space between members, there’s been more writing and demoing on our own.

I’m finally utilizing technology. It’s cool. I like it a little more than recording my out of time riffs into a tape recorder with my old Peavey practice amp. Now it’s Garageband, Line 6 tone port and EZ Drummer. I may yet still become a professional.”

War of Ages Frontman Was Kidnapped by the Paperboy

Leroy Hamp, lead screamer for the Erie, Pa. metalcore act War of Ages, is a bestial war animal on stage. But in person, he is as mild-mannered and considerate as could be. His personality, he said, has always been this way, but it unfortunately has lead him into serious trouble. "I was a very helpful kid," he told Noisecreep. "I liked helping everyone, and I had that personality. The paperboy needed my help and he kidnapped me. [He was a] 16-year-old boy."

It isn't difficult to lure an innocent preschooler into helping you out if they are willing, and the kidnapper took advantage of that fact. "He actually just said, 'Yeah you can help me deliver papers,'" Hamp recollected. "He took me further and further away from home, and I started noticing. And I was like, 'Hey, can I please go back home now?' And I was too far away for me to go myself. I didn't know where I was."

Implying that the perpetrator had lecherous plans for his captive, Hamp continued, "He took me far away from home and would not take me home, unless I 'helped him out' in a few areas. So I was a scared kid. I was in pre-school."

Luckily for Hamp and metalcore fans everywhere, he was returned to his guardians safe and sound. Regardless of that, Hamp still had to overcome the trauma that comes with being taken from home. "It's definitely taken some time to get over," he said. "I'm definitely over it. I went through to proper stages and channels to fight through something like that, but it was definitely a hard thing for sure. I could've been a lot worse."

While the incident certainly caused emotional problems in Hamp's life, the after-effects haven't trickled down into any War of Ages lyrical content. "I don't really touch base with too much abuse," Hamp said of his writing. "It's more so overall problems ... I deal more with 'overall picture' things than individual issues. It's not about these little things in life that happen; it's about who you are as a person and how you're going to get through those things. That's what War of Ages deals with."

War of Ages' will be on a U.S. tour with As I Lay Dying and Demon Hunter starting late April, to support their forthcoming album, 'Eternal.'

Exclusive: Snapcase Guitarist Reveals Reunion Is 'Just Some Shows'

We recently revealed that Buffalo post-hardcore groundbreakers Snapcase were reuniting to play a spate of shows in Europe and one domestically on May 8. Guitarist Frank Vicario -- who was extremely busy on the eve of the iPad launch, since he works for Apple -- took the time to give Noisecreep the lowdown on the goings on. While sadly it's not a full-fledged reunion or tour, don't despair. If planets align, we could be seeing more of Snapcase. Or not.

"As of right now, it's just some shows," Vicario told Noisecreep. "We never got the chance to do any sort of 'last hurrah' in Europe, so when this opportunity presented itself, we couldn't refuse. Also, we couldn't neglect to play in our hometown for our fans, friends and families, so we put together the Buffalo show with some old friends and new ones in hopes of making something special for everyone."

The reunion was hastened by everything simply falling into place. "We had talked about playing together in some limited capacity as far back as the benefit shows in 2007," Vicario said. "We had so much fun, playing together again without any pretense. We actually met up and jammed a number of times throughout 2009, just hanging out and having fun. We toyed with the idea of playing again, usually musing about doing a Buffalo show or being surprise guests at another show, but nothing ever came to fruition."

Earlier this year, guitarist Jon Salemi received an email from the band's European booking agent, since Snapcase had an invitation to play the Groezrock festival. "We were immediately excited, yet tentative. [Drummer] Tim [Redmond] is a school teacher, which makes it very difficult for him to get any sort of time off. The dates fell right on his spring break, so we decided to do it, as well as book a few shows in Germany to give Europe the proper send-off, albeit belated, it deserved."

Damn you, Europe! But we Americans love Snapcase, too!

There are no plans for a U.S. tour, with Vicario saying, "We're still close friends and we love the thought of playing together in any context, but with families and careers outside of playing music, it's difficult to do any substantial touring. I'm not saying something couldn't fall into place in the future. But for now, this is it."

While the band has almost a full album's worth of songs that were written before the 2005 split, there are no plans to record them or write new material. "We do love playing together, so who knows what the future may bring," Vicario admitted. "For the tour, we're concentrating on giving the fans what they want and playing the songs they're familiar with. Not to say that people wouldn't be interested in hearing new material, but with the limited amount of time we have to work with on stage and the back catalog we're pulling from, it's difficult to fit in all the standards fans want to hear, let alone worrying about fitting in new material. We'd love for folks to hear some new stuff some day, but these shows probably aren't the best vehicle for that."

Besides fixing computers for Apple, Vicario turned the former Snapcase rehearsal space into a studio and had worked with Buffalo bands until he closed up shop last summer. He plans to build a new studio shortly and enjoys the opportunity to teach young bands what he has learned through the years.

While the jury is out on the comeback beyond the "few shows," Vicario said, "We're five old friends who like playing music together, and this is an amazing gift of an opportunity we've been given to do that another time. Sorry if that's not the prophetic answer everyone is hoping for. We'll take it one day at a time and see what the future holds."

See you in Buffalo, Frank and Snapcase!

THE ACACIA STRAIN To Enter Studio Next Week

Massachusetts-based metallic juggernauts THE ACACIA STRAIN will enter Planet Z Studios in Hadley, Massachusetts on April 14 with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris to begin recording the follow-up to 2008's "Continent".

Commented vocalist Vincent Bennett: "It's been a long time coming. It's going to be hard to follow 'Continent', but I'm confident that everyone will be as pleased with this record as we are. With this album we're not trying to reinvent the wheel, per say, but prove ourselves viable in today's music scene."

Written and (to be) recorded in its entirety on eight-string guitars, "this record will be the heaviest record of 2010, hands down," according to a press release.

Bennett added: "This is not the heaviest record EVER written, but it IS the heaviest ACACIA STRAIN record to date."

"The Most Known Unknown", the debut DVD from THE ACACIA STRAIN, has entered Billboard's Top Music Videos chart at position No. 10.

Disc one of the "The Most Known Unknown" DVD documents a sold-out show at the Worcester Palladium shot in December 2008, while disc two contains footage of a show at the much smaller and more intimate Waterfront on the band's home turf of Holyoke, Massachusetts, as well as three music videos, a documentary covering the formative years of the band and a "10 Seconds of Fame" bonus segment, in which select fans were given 10 seconds on camera to do whatever they wanted.

"The Most Known Unknown" features cover art by Paul Romano, who was also responsible for the cover of THE ACACIA STRAIN's latest album, "Continent", as well as covers for MASTODON, TRIVIUM and many more.

THE ACACIA STRAIN sold almost 5,600 copies of "Continent" in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 107 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD debuted at No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Despised Icon Break Up

Canadian deathcore band Despised Icon have decided to break up. Over the course of the band’s eight years together, they released four albums, with the most recent, Day of Mourning, debuting at #162 on the Billboard top 200. Fans of theirs will still have a chance to see them, as they’ll be doing a series of farewell tours in the United States, Canada and Europe. It makes us feel a little old that deathcore bands have been a) around for eight years and b) are breaking up. We’ll feel about 20 years older in a few years when they announce their reunion tour . A statement from the band in which they explain why they’re splitting is below.

“The time has come for us to move on. Some of us have recently reached a new chapter in their lives, starting families, buying houses and pursuing other careers to make it all happen. Writing music, touring and leaving home for months at a time is slowly becoming impossible because of that. We all decided that it’d be best to pull the plug now and end things right.

It’s hard to believe we started this band almost 10 years ago already. At first, Despised Icon was mostly just an excuse to hang out, write brutal slam riffs and play local shows once in a while. With your support, we got the opportunity to actually play music for a living, make friends around the world, be MVPs and travel to places we never even dreamed of visiting in our lifetime. Thank you all for some of the best times of our lives.

We’re currently working on setting up our final tours in Canada, USA and Europe. Expect to see us in a town near you sometime before the end of the year. If all goes as planned, we’ll also be touring Australia and Asia for the first time in the fall. We’ll keep you posted on everything. These last shows will be fucking epic! See you guys then!”

“If it wasn’t clear enough, we want to assure everyone that we will be playing all the tours and all the shows that we’ve been announcing for the rest of 2010.

This means that we will be doing all the European shows scheduled for the next months, including the France/Spain/Portugal tour starting next Friday along with the Parkway Drive Tour that is to take place in a few weeks.

Also you can count on us to be part of the major summer festivals next August as this will be our last run in Europe. We are working right now at booking final tours in all the major areas we’ve been touring for the past 5 years.

Rest assured, we are NOT cancelling a single show! So please, come hang out one last time with us!”
